POSITION PURPOSE Manage, schedule and maintain SSAB St. Paul facility to receive, track and process coil and plate in a safe, efficient, cost-effective manner and to ship a finished products that meet the customer’s ordered specifications, on time.

Requirements

  • Minimum ten years of heavy industrial experience including three years of managerial experience.
  • Experience participating in and managing industrial safety, environmental, and quality programs
  • Experience scheduling people and equipment.
  • A high level of written and oral communication skills.
  • A good understanding of production planning, and maintenance systems.
  • Mid to high-level computer skills.
  • Experience with developing and maintaining a Department Budget.
  • Experience in managing employees using a “Team” concept.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree- Technical degree

Responsibilities

  • Establish and manage plant operating expenses
  • Develop and manage the facility capital expenditure plan
  • Establish and publish facility goals and manage the work force to achieve them.
  • Manage facility EH&S, operations, quality, maintenance, engineering, purchasing, inventory, shipment, and human resource activities
  • Enforce company practices and policies
  • Develop and manage plant goals that align with corporate objectives.
  • Drive continuous improvement projects
  • Interface with the workforce regarding safety, costs, productivity and scheduling.
  • Work directly with Sales to respond to customer inquiries or complaints
  • Act as first point of contact to federal, state, and local regulatory agencies and municipal authorities
  • Interface with property management of leased facilities to resolve property issues including but not limited to maintenance and repair
  • Prepare and publish a weekly crew schedule.
  • Coordinate crew and processing schedules with business requirements - Shipping, Production Planning, Maintenance, etc.
  • Prepare daily schedules prioritizing processing requirements.
  • Monitor department production and shipping operations and adjust schedules as needed.
  • Coordinate with appropriate parties to maintain buildings and equipment at a level that ensures the safety of the work force and attainment of production goals.
  • Define preventive maintenance requirements and include details with the daily processing schedules.
  • Direct the work force to perform planned maintenance during scheduled down days and outages.
  • Coach and train the work force to develop a “culture of safety”
  • Implement and monitor all facets of the department safety program.
  • Conduct weekly personal contacts with each employee.
  • Conduct safety meetings.
  • Assign responsibility for safety observation corrective actions and insure timely completion.
  • Ensure compliance to OHSAS 18001 standard
  • Manage an orientation program for new facility personnel.
  • Monitor and coach all personnel on specific timely issues and concerns.
  • Schedule Safety classes and monthly safety meetings.
  • Continue to develop the skills of heat treat facility employees.
  • Conduct Safety meetings
  • Conduct crew meetings
  • Conduct Quarterly Business Information Meetings
  • Communicate goals related to customer service, costs, safety statistics, discipline policy, absence and lateness policy, etc.
  • Use positive and negative coaching and counseling to ensure employee effectiveness and morale.
  • Responsible for meeting the overall quality of product. Determine if product meets industry and/or customer specifications.
  • Initiate CPARS when needed to improve quality or resolve issues.
  • Ensure SSAB St. Paul maintains compliance to the latest standard of ISO 9001
  • In conjunction with Corporate Environmental establish and maintain ISO 14001 program. Responsible for resolution of environmental issues.
  • Implement a Performance Management System that will support the operational objectives of SSAB.
  • Provide training where needed in job related skills.
  • Interview and hire employees when needed.
  • Continuously evaluate each employee’s performance. Make recommendations to the General Manager regarding performance increases.
  • Determine the course of action required when performance does not meet standards.
  • Issue disciplinary action when required.
  • Office presence at the St. Paul CTL facility required
  • Regular and reliable attendance required
