The Digital team focuses on delivering a superior customer experience on petsmart.com and our mobile app. The team also guides revenue and profit growth for the digital business. Digital team associates focus on delivering initiatives that help our pet parents find and discover products, bring enterprise priorities to life digitally, design new user experiences, build new features and capabilities, and manage key omni-channel programs. We work to showcase our brand digitally through the lens of expertise and love and to provide a personalized experience for our consumers. The team takes a data-driven approach and leverages quantitative and qualitative insights to optimize the experience and make business decisions.

5+ years of experience as a Front-end or UX Developer required.
We are seeking a UX Optimization Developer with deep expertise in modern front-end technologies including Next.js, React, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, SASS, and SCSS.
This role focuses on building and optimizing digital experiences through A/B testing, reusable UI component development, and scalable front-end architecture. The ideal candidate will partner closely with business stakeholders, IT, and engineering leadership to translate requirements into high-quality technical solutions.
This individual is proactive, collaborative, and driven to continuously improve processes, performance, and product quality. They take initiative, embrace stretch opportunities, and work closely with leadership to deliver scalable, optimized user experiences.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience
• Hands-on experience with experimentation platforms and A/B testing
• Strong experience with Next.js and TypeScript
• Advanced proficiency in JavaScript, including DOM manipulation and the JavaScript object model
• Thorough understanding of React.js, its core principles, and workflows
• Experience translating designs and wireframes into high-quality code
• Familiarity with modern ECMAScript specifications
• Experience working with RESTful APIs
• Familiarity with modern front-end build pipelines and tools
• Experience with Git or other code versioning tools
• Working knowledge of Agile methodologies
• Experience using project management tools such as JIRA and Confluence
• Strong analytical skills, including root cause analysis
• Ability to optimize applications for performance across web-capable devices and browsers
• Self-starter with strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
• 5+ years of experience as a Front-end or UX Developer required.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of modern authorization mechanisms (e.g., JSON Web Tokens)
• Experience with front-end development tools such as Babel, Webpack, and NPM
• Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions
• Strong benchmarking and performance optimization skills
• Experience with Optimizely, CommerceTools, and Algolia
• Familiarity with ADA compliance and accessibility best practices

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with business and product teams to deliver high-quality solutions aligned to requirements
• Develop new user-facing features using React.js and Next.js
• Design and build reusable UI components and contribute to a scalable component library
• Lead and support A/B testing initiatives using modern experimentation frameworks
• Translate designs and wireframes into high-quality, maintainable code
• Optimize components for maximum performance across a wide range of devices and browsers
• Implement solutions in ambiguous situations and help clarify technical requirements
• Proactively identify and communicate efficiency and optimization opportunities
• Conduct root cause analysis and support bug triaging efforts
• Work autonomously while maintaining strong collaboration across teams
• Recommend scalable technical solutions and gain cross-functional buy-in for implementation
