The Department of Information Technology (DoIT) provides support to state agencies, the Executive Office of the Governor, the Governor’s coordinating offices, and a variety of independent agencies within the Executive Branch. Striving to provide the highest level of customer service to its internal and external customers, DoIT supports Maryland’s agencies and commissions through its leadership and strategic direction for Information Technology and Telecommunications, establishing a long range, target technology architecture, encouraging cross agency collaboration and advocating best practices for operations and project management. The Department of Information Technology is seeking a User Experience (UX) Designer I. This is an internal recruitment open to current Department of Information Technology Maryland Digital Services (MDDS) unit employees only As a User Experience (UX) Designer I, you’ll utilize human-centered design, care, and curiosity to establish brand new services for Marylanders. With a balance between foundational strategy and iterative service delivery, you’ll be an individual contributor as you work on cross-disciplinary teams to design scalable experiences that are usable and trustworthy. You should be comfortable working in a startup environment where you think independently and operate with a moderate degree of autonomy. We’re looking for self-starters who are skilled at driving projects forward while communicating and collaborating closely on teams. Day-to-day you’ll collaborate with cross-disciplinary web services delivery team DoIT staff and State agency partners. This classification does not supervise. This role utilizes experience in website and application transformation and migrations, customer experience and customer satisfaction measurement, research and design activities, contributions to the Maryland Web Design System (MDWDS) and MDWDS community, and support for the development, deployment, and management of the new Maryland content management system (CMS). The role also involves storytelling skills, preparing demonstrations and presentations, and engaging stakeholders with design decisions, analysis and reporting, and digital experience fundamentals, best practices, and training. The UX Designer I is expected to support roles across the Maryland Digital Service (MDDS) with the goal of broadening their experience and skillsets and becoming a change agent for human-centered design across Maryland digital content and services.
