About The Position

Leads and works as part of a crew responsible for the excavation, repair, and replacement of drainage lines, as well as performing a variety of tasks related to the maintenance and construction of streets, sidewalks, ditches, and storm sewer systems. Performs a high level of manual labor, including digging, shoring, and backfilling trenches to ensure safe and effective completion of projects. Installs and positions pipe within trenches excavated by backhoes or trenching equipment, ensuring proper alignment and grade. Adjusts culverts as needed to maintain appropriate water flow and system functionality. Assembles, installs, and dismantles traffic control devices such as barricades to maintain safe work zones. Demonstrates proficiency in the use of a wide range of hand and power tools. Consistently follows established safety procedures and properly utilizes all required personal protective equipment. Identifies potential safety hazards and exercises sound judgment in determining and implementing appropriate precautionary measures. Works independently when required, demonstrating strong decision-making skills and the ability to assess job site conditions and determine the most effective course of action. Maintains working knowledge of the operation and safe use of various tools and heavy equipment, including gas saws, air hammers, sledgehammers, water pumps, backhoes, sharpshooters, and front-end loaders. Effectively communicates using the city radio system as required for coordination and safety. Must have and maintain, without interruption, all necessary licenses, certifications, clearances, and/or job requirements. Works the assigned schedule and complies with the City's timekeeping and attendance policy . Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED and one (1) to three (3) months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid Texas Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a good driving record
  • Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical labor, including lifting and carrying materials, kneeling, crouching and bending; pushing, pulling and reaching; and standing for prolonged periods of time

  • Texas Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe
