About The Position

The purpose of this position is to help maintain wastewater treatment plants and lift stations. This is accomplished by repairing sprinkler and water lines, cleaning drying beds and hauling sludge to the landfill. Maintaining the grounds using various types of equipment, taking basins off-line by setting up and monitoring pumps, operating and maintaining the vactor truck, maintaining buildings by cleaning or painting as necessary, keeping all locations secure by maintaining and repairing all fencing as needed. Other duties include assisting plant operators and maintenance personnel and completing related assigned tasks.

Requirements

  • Driver's License Required - Y Type - A Endorsements - N - Tanker
  • Individuals who do not currently have a commercial driver's license will be required to acquire a commercial class A license with tanker endorsement will be given 60 days to complete the ELDT Course from date of email enrollment to provide the commercial learners permit (CLP) and 60 additional days to provide a valid the commercial driver's license as a condition of employment.
  • Mission Essential Position will be required to report for all inclement weather.
  • This position is expected to regularly work in or around bodies of water greater in depth than 4 feet, which may pose hazard, especially in the absence of swimming ability.
  • Employees of this classification must wear a self-contained breathing apparatus; thus, facial hair is prohibited.
  • Over three months and up to and including six months experience.
  • Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.
  • Uses addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, and/or calculates ratios, rates and percentages.
  • Reads technical instructions, procedures manuals, and charts to solve practical problems such as assembly instruction for tools, routine office equipment operating instructions, and methods and procedures for investigations, and in drawing and layout work; composes routine reports and specialized reports, forms, and business letters, with proper format; speaks compound sentences using normal grammar and word form.
  • Makes frequent decisions, affecting the individual, co-workers, and others who depend on the service or product; works in a somewhat fluid environment with rules and procedures but many variations from the routine.
  • Performs skilled work involving rules/systems with almost constant problem solving; requires normal attention with short periods of concentration for accurate results and occasional exposure to unusual pressure.
  • Medium to heavy work that involves walking, standing, stooping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 to 50 pounds of force on a regular basis and/or 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
  • Handles or uses machines, tools, or equipment requiring moderate instruction and experience such as large shop equipment and machines, firefighting apparatus, protective equipment, gang mowers, tractors, vehicles, police vehicles or light trucks, firearms, computers, peripherals, medical or dental equipment, software programs such as word processing, spreadsheets, or custom applications, switchboard; or may repair power tools and light equipment and office machines.
  • Works in area where exposure to radiation is a possibility such as near xray equipment or in a nuclear reactor facility; or works in an area where exposure to disease or pathogens is a possibility such as an animal control facility or hospital; or works in area where toxic or caustic chemicals are used, such as shop area where batteries are handled or charged or in areas where electronic parts are cleaned; or works in areas where explosions are possible such as maintaining gas lines or welding or where explosions are deliberate such as excavation or earth moving.
  • Some responsibility for safety and health of others and/or for occasional enforcement of the standards of public safety or health.

Responsibilities

  • Regular and reliable attendance in compliance with given schedules is a mandatory requirement of this position. Schedules may be subject to change with or without advance notice
  • Cleans drying beds as necessary, does appropriate tests and paperwork, inspects and operates equipment need to haul sludge to the landfill.
  • Maintains the grounds of the treatment plants and lift stations by mowing, weed eating, edging and trimming trees. Installs and repairs sprinkler systems as needed. Paints buildings and fixtures as needed.
  • Set up and operate various types of pumps and the vacuum truck to help maintenance or collections personnel with their duties and also to clean basins, clarifiers and digesters.
  • Cleans the shop by sweeping out the shop; emptying trash; reorganizing the parts shed; and reporting parts that need restocking.
