About The Position

The purpose of this position is to maintain the distribution of water and the collection of wastewaters. This is accomplished by preparing job sites, installing, cleaning and repairing water and sewer lines; maintaining water and sewer lines, replacing pipes, cleaning and changing meters, cleaning and changing equipment; and cleaning the shop. Other duties include assisting operators and completing related assigned tasks.

Requirements

  • Driver's License Required - Y Type - A Endorsements - N - Tanker
  • Individuals who do not currently have a commercial driver's license will be required to acquire a commercial class A license with tanker endorsement will be given 60 days to complete the ELDT Course from date of email enrollment to provide the commercial learners permit (CLP) and 60 additional days to provide a valid the commercial driver's license as a condition of employment.
  • Mission Essential Position will be required to report for all inclement weather.
  • This position is expected to regularly work in or around bodies of water greater in depth than 4 feet, which may pose hazard, especially in the absence of swimming ability.

  • Reads technical instructions, procedures manuals, and charts to solve practical problems such as assembly instruction for tools, routine office equipment operating instructions, and methods and procedures for investigations, and in drawing and layout work; composes routine reports and specialized reports, forms, and business letters, with proper format; speaks compound sentences using normal grammar and word form.
  • Makes frequent decisions, affecting the individual, co-workers, and others who depend on the service or product; works in a somewhat fluid environment with rules and procedures but many variations from the routine.
  • Performs skilled work involving rules/systems with almost constant problem solving; requires normal attention with short periods of concentration for accurate results and occasional exposure to unusual pressure.
  • Impact of decisions is moderately serious - affects work unit and may affect other units or citizens; or loss of life could occur but probability is low.
  • Medium to heavy work that involves walking, standing, stooping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 to 50 pounds of force on a regular basis and/or 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
  • Handles or uses machines, tools, or equipment requiring moderate instruction and experience such as large shop equipment and machines, firefighting apparatus, protective equipment, gang mowers, tractors, vehicles, police vehicles or light trucks, firearms, computers, peripherals, medical or dental equipment, software programs such as word processing, spreadsheets, or custom applications, switchboard; or may repair power tools and light equipment and office machines.
  • Works in area where exposure to radiation is a possibility such as near x-ray equipment or in a nuclear reactor facility; or works in an area where exposure to disease or pathogens is a possibility such as an animal control facility or hospital; or works in area where toxic or caustic chemicals are used, such as shop area where batteries are handled or charged or in areas where electronic parts are cleaned; or works in areas where explosions are possible such as maintaining gas lines or welding or where explosions are deliberate such as excavation or earth moving.
  • Some responsibility for safety and health of others and/or for occasional enforcement of the standards of public safety or health.

Responsibilities

  • Regular and reliable attendance in compliance with given schedules is a mandatory requirement of this position. Schedules may be subject to change with or without advance notice
  • Maintains meters and fire hydrants by cleaning, repairing and replacing as needed.
  • Services, repairs, replaces and maintains meter boxes, water lines, sewer lines, and equipment by excavating in and around area, cutting off valves, cleaning out and restoring flow, removing and replacing manhole lids, contacting customers to locate problems, placing clamps on lines, and checking and covering area.
  • Assists equipment operators and crews by picking up and delivering parts and equipment, spotting lines, and ensuring tools and equipment are available.
  • Cleans the shop by sweeping out the shop; emptying trash; reorganizing the parts shed; and reporting parts that need restocking.
