ACCIONA Construction USA, part of the SR 400 Peach Partners consortium, has been awarded the contract to design and construct the SR 400 Express Lanes project in Atlanta, Georgia. This $4.6 billion project, awarded by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), is a key public-private partnership aimed at reducing congestion on a major highway in the Atlanta metropolitan area. The Utility Relocation Engineer will be responsible for the engineering analysis, design coordination, and technical execution of utility relocation activities within one of the project segments of the SR 400 Express Lanes project. This role applies professional engineering principles to identify utility conflicts, develop technically sound relocation solutions, and ensure all utility systems are integrated into the roadway design in compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil Engineering or related discipline).
  • Minimum 10 years of engineering experience on large infrastructure or transportation projects, including utility systems.
  • Demonstrated experience applying engineering principles to utility coordination and relocation.
  • Strong understanding of underground and overhead utility engineering systems.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical standards.
  • Excellent technical communication and problem-solving skills.

  • Professional Engineering licensure preferred (PE in Georgia)

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering evaluations of utility conflicts identified during pre-design and design development phases.
  • Responsible for cost and schedule related directly to engineered utility solutions.
  • Review and interpret civil, structural, and roadway design plans to identify impacts to existing underground and overhead utilities.
  • Develop and evaluate engineering-based utility relocation solutions, ensuring technical feasibility, constructability, and compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Coordinate with internal design engineers and external engineering consultants to integrate utility relocation requirements into final engineering plans and specifications.
  • Review utility owner engineering standards, drawings, and specifications to ensure technical compliance.
  • Prepare or review engineering documentation, technical reports, and design submittals related to utility relocation activities.
  • Support permitting and approval processes through engineering justification and technical responses.
  • Provide engineering guidance during field execution of utility relocation work to ensure installations conform to approved designs.
  • Coordinate with utility owners, design teams, and construction personnel to facilitate engineering execution.
  • Prepare and maintain engineering records, design clarifications, and technical correspondence related to utility relocation work.
  • Ensure utility relocation designs comply with local, state, and federal regulations, utility owner requirements, and GDOT standards.
