About The Position

Polar Tankers Overview Polar Tankers, a wholly owned subsidiary of ConocoPhillips, provides marine transportation for North Slope production, using five company-owned, double-hulled tankers in addition to chartering third-party vessels as necessary. The tankers deliver oil from Valdez, Alaska, to refineries primarily on the West Coast of the United States. The company operates five Endeavour-class tankers: Polar Endeavour, Polar Resolution, Polar Discovery, Polar Adventure and Polar Enterprise. Description If you are selected as the Utility Person, you will be assigned to work in the Deck, Engine and Steward Department, as needed. Utility Person is responsible for various duties as assigned by the Chief Mate, First Engineer, or Steward, and is required to participate in all drills and emergencies, and assists with the enforcement of rules, regulations, and pollution prevention. Position Overview This is a Safety Sensitive position. Relocation is not available for this position. Your responsibilities may include: When assigned to the engine department, under direction of the First Assistant Engineer, responsibilities may include: Cleans decks and ladder ways Replenishes materials and rag bins, empties trash, organizes tools and stores, paints, and assists with maintenance Familiar with engine room spaces to avoid hazards and take the necessary action in time of emergency Learns the plant and machinery operation Participates in maintenance and upkeep When assigned to the deck department, under the direction of the Chief Mate, responsibilities may include: Performs sanitation duties in the house, passage spaces, common areas, and heads Assists with mooring lines when docking and undocking, and with securing the deck for sea Assists with cargo operations Assists the deck department in the maintenance and upkeep of the areas and equipment assigned to the deck department Performs the duties of lookout when arriving or departing a port, or whenever required by the Master Working hours vary depending on departmental needs, but typically 12-hour days which includes 4-hours of overtime

Requirements

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
• Currently hold, or have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to obtain, a U.S. Passport
• Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC)
• Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC)
• Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following:
• Be away from home for periods in excess of two months
• Push/pull up to 200 pounds
• Lift/carry up to 100 pounds floor to shoulder
• Lift from floor to overhead and transport articles weighing up to 50 pounds
• Climb various ladders and stairs ranging from 5 to 200 feet in height
• Perform maintenance on equipment
• Stand for long periods of time
• Physically attend to vessels including confined space entry and environmental extremes
• Walk, stand, stoop, sit, climb, and carry material on a daily basis on even and uneven terrain
• Work outside in harsh weather conditions
• Work alone a high percentage of the time

• 1+ years of experience working on a crude oil tanker
• 1+ years of experience working on a product tanker
• 1+ years of experience in operating a mechanical winch
• 1+ years of experience in operating a crane
• Currently hold the following endorsements on Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC):
• Able Seafarer-Engine Rating Forming Part of an Engineering Watch (RFPEW)
• Qualified Member of the Engine Department QMED
• Able Seafarer – Deck
• Basic Oil Tanker Cargo Operations endorsement (not barges)
• Basic Training endorsement
• Vessel Personnel with Designated Security Duties endorsement (VPDSD)
• Security Awareness endorsement
• Ordinary Seaman endorsement
• Wiper endorsement
• Steward’s Department Food Handler (FH) endorsement
• Tankerman Assistant endorsements (not barges)
• RFPNW training course completion or endorsement
• Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to work overtime
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Benefits

• All unlicensed employees earn paid leave on the basis of twenty-five (25) days paid leave for every thirty (30) days of sea service.
• Tour lengths range from 65-85 days with an average tour of seventy-five (75) days onboard and sixty (60) days of paid leave.
