About The Position

The Utility Maintenance Technician III is responsible for leading and assisting wastewater utility crews in the installation, repair, rehabilitation, and maintenance of wastewater collection systems, lift stations, treatment facilities, and related equipment. This position provides on-site leadership, ensures compliance with safety and traffic control standards, and supports efficient project completion while maintaining high service and operational standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED, plus a minimum of one to two (1-2) years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License (Class B may be required) with a good driving record.
  • Ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting and carrying; kneeling, crouching, bending; pushing, pulling, reaching; and standing or walking for prolonged periods.
  • Traffic Control I (Flagging) certification.
  • Utility Safety and Trenching and Shoring Safety and Confined Space Entry training.
  • Completion of State of Texas TEEX training requirements (40–60 hours).

Nice To Haves

  • Additional trade skills, licenses, or certifications such as plumbing, electrical, welding, or related technical credentials.
  • Experience leading utility maintenance or rehabilitation crews.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, oversee, and assist wastewater utility crews in manual labor tasks including installation, repair, rehabilitation, and routine maintenance of wastewater lines, sewer mains, lift stations, treatment facilities, and related equipment.
  • Coordinate daily work activities, materials, tools, and equipment to ensure efficient project execution and maintenance operations.
  • Provide on-site leadership and guidance to crew members, promoting safe work practices and productivity.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable safety standards, including traffic control, trenching and shoring, confined space entry, and utility safety requirements.
  • Evaluate job site conditions and make appropriate decisions regarding work methods, safety measures, and project sequencing.
  • Assist with customer service and regulatory compliance related to wastewater operations, as needed.
  • Respond to after-hours call-outs and emergency situations as required.
  • Must have and maintain, without interruption, all necessary licenses, certifications, clearances, and/or job requirements.
  • Work the assigned schedule and comply with City timekeeping and attendance policy.
  • Other duties as assigned.
