As a Utility Location Technician, you'll play a hands-on role in identifying, marking, and documenting underground utilities-ensuring safe excavation and supporting essential operations across the City. Higher-level technicians take on more complex locating assignments, advanced equipment use, and may provide training or informal leadership to junior staff. Requirements

A high school diploma or equivalent; AND
Experience in utility system maintenance, construction, operation, or utility locating (level-specific details below)
Valid Class E driver's license at appointment (Licensure requirement may be waived at the discretion of the department director)
Utility Location Technician I
Two years of experience in utility system maintenance, operation, or construction OR
One year of underground utility locating experience
Utility Location Technician II
Four years of experience in utility system maintenance, operation, or construction OR
Three years of experience locating underground water, sewer, gas, and electric facilities
Utility Location Technician III
Five years of experience in utility system maintenance, operation, or construction OR
Five years of experience locating underground water, sewer, gas, and electric facilities

Nice To Haves

Preference may be given to applicants with supervisory experience

Responsibilities

Locate and mark underground utilities such as water, sewer, gas, and electric systems
Use maps, as-built drawings, and electronic locating equipment to identify buried assets
Assist contractors, City staff, and the public with utility information and excavation safety
Maintain accurate documentation of work performed
Support field operations and respond to utility-related requests and issues
Help ensure regulatory compliance and promote safe digging practices
