About The Position

Lake Superior Consulting is seeking a Utility Locate Lead to join our growing team! Location: Bloomington, Eden Prairie, Chaska, Cologne, Norwood Young America, Waconia, Richfield, Edina, Shakopee, Burnsville, St Louis Park, Minneapolis, Plymouth, and surrounding areas. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced locator to step into a leadership role supporting the day-to-day operations of our utility locating and leak detection services. As a Utility Locate Lead, you’ll work hands-on in the field while mentoring and supporting technicians to ensure safety, accuracy, and efficiency across all projects. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
  • 2–3 years of utility locating experience (required).
  • Strong knowledge of utility locating methods, equipment, and industry standards.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to working safely and providing high-quality service.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and terrain conditions.
  • Valid Driver’s License and ability to operate a company vehicle.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Availability to travel and participate in on-call rotations.

  • Prior leadership or mentoring experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support field technicians to complete locate requests safely, accurately, and within required timelines.
  • Perform underground utility locates using electronic locating equipment and APWA color standards.
  • Read and interpret utility maps and prints to identify underground facilities.
  • Assist in training, mentoring, and developing new and existing team members.
  • Coordinate with the Utility Supervisor and field staff to manage daily workload and priorities.
  • Complete documentation for locates, crossings, and excavation projects accurately and on time.
  • Participate in safety meetings, audits, and operational reviews.
  • Promote a strong safety and quality culture throughout all field activities.
  • Communicate clearly with supervisors, clients, and coworkers to ensure efficient operations.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and ensure equipment readiness for field projects.
