About The Position

Berman Subaru of Chicago is seeking an experienced Used Car Technician to inspect, diagnose, repair, and recondition pre-owned vehicles across a wide range of makes and models. This role focuses on ensuring vehicles meet safety, quality, and performance standards prior to sale. ASE certifications are not required, but strong hands-on experience with multiple brands is essential.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as an automotive technician, preferably in a used car or multi-brand environment
  • Strong working knowledge of a wide variety of vehicle makes and models (domestic and import)
  • Ability to diagnose and repair vehicles without reliance on brand-specific specialization
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools and shop equipment
  • Solid mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to work independently
  • Valid Drivers License with a clean driving record (3 year min)

Responsibilities

  • Perform thorough multi-point inspections of used vehicles, assessing mechanical, electrical, and safety systems to ensure they meet dealership and manufacturer standards
  • Identify any worn or damaged parts, fluid leaks, or other issues that need repair or replacement
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and engine-related issues using diagnostic tools and equipment
  • Repair or replace faulty components, such as brakes, suspension, engines, transmissions, and other systems, ensuring vehicles are restored to safe and operable condition
  • Conduct routine maintenance services, such as oil changes, tire rotations, brake pad replacements, and fluid level checks
  • Ensure all vehicles have had essential maintenance completed before being offered for sale
  • Test drive vehicles after repairs or maintenance to verify the quality of work and ensure the vehicle performs properly
  • Ensure all repairs are done according to dealership and manufacturer standards and maintain high levels of quality control
  • Maintain accurate records of all work performed, including detailed repair orders, parts used, and any additional services recommended
  • Participate in ongoing training and certification programs to stay current with evolving automotive technologies, diagnostics, and repair techniques
