About The Position

The U.S. Operations Engineer will play a critical role in delivering engineering solutions to ensure safe, reliable operations and regulatory compliance at Gibson Energy assets. This position emphasizes “right-sized” engineering design, innovative solutions, and adherence to engineering design principles. This position is located in Houston, Texas, and reports to the the Manager Operations Engineering who is based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Requirements

  • Degree in Chemical, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering is essential.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant work practices such as Process Safety Management (PSM), Management of Change (MOC), and Asset Integrity Management (AIM).
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in support of the operation of major crude oil terminals and pipelines, rail and truck load/offload racks and associated measurement facilities.
  • Exhibits in-depth knowledge of relevant codes (ASME, API, NACE, OSHA, etc.) and other technical regulations and standards.
  • Demonstrates effective time management and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to manage several concurrent and varied projects, as well as manage and troubleshoot a broad spectrum of technical issues.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to make effective decisions as necessary and take a leadership role in solving problems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with functional and operating areas.
  • Represents and promotes the company in a responsible, positive, and professional manner.
  • Demonstrates leadership abilities and experience in mentoring junior engineers.
  • Ability to understand environmental impacts in their area and complete activities in a responsible manner to minimize environmental impacts.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in marine environments would be an asset.
  • Field office and project management experience will be a strong asset.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates cultural adaptation and integration to bridge engineering practices between Gibson’s Canadian and U.S. Operations.
  • Provides project scoping, prioritization, and may provide cost and schedule estimates for Maintenance and MOC projects.
  • Manages small MOC projects from inception to completion.
  • Act as a key contributor to the identification and mitigation of risk.
  • Participates in project and facility HAZOPs, PSSRs, and PHAs.
  • Ensures priorities being driven by consistent application of risk assessments.
  • Identifies and recommends changes or projects to improve asset performance in terms of reliability, safety, environmental performance, efficiency, and net revenue.
  • Provides onsite technical support, troubleshooting, and optimization support to operating facilities.
  • Acts as initial technical point of contact and support for Operations and Maintenance teams, involving internal/external support as required.
  • Provides Turnaround and Shutdown support.
  • Recommending solutions to technical challenges and to ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Consults with other internal (and external) experts, Project Engineers/Managers, Operations and engineering contractors during FEED, detailed process engineering design, and start-up activities on assigned projects.
  • Ensures regulatory compliance for all engineering activities performed.
  • Provides engineering support to ensure that maximum benefit is obtained from process or operational changes without negatively impacting the safety or operability of production facilities.
  • Develops and fosters strong, positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provides training, guidance, and mentorship in the development of the capacity and capability of in-house engineers.
  • Demonstrates a personal commitment and proactive approach to Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) through participation in all applicable EH&S programs and ensures safe operation of the branch, team or unit and compliance with all Company EH&S policies and procedures.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
