About The Position

The primary focus is to support the Chief Operations Officer (COO) in managing daily operations, implementing strategic plans, and overseeing functional areas like open market underwriting operations, premium accounting/accounts receivable, projects and/or personnel to ensure organizational efficiency and achieve strategic goals. The Head of Open Market Operations will need to effectively function at both a strategic and tactical level. Key responsibilities include strategic planning and performance measurement, budget management, process improvement, staff leadership, and ensuring operational excellence, legal compliance, and a positive internal culture.

Requirements

  • 10 years of experience in insurance operations.
  • Fundamental understanding of specialty insurance and reinsurance business. Exposure to London market helpful.
  • Significant prior leadership roles, where developing people was as critical as accomplishing results.
  • Prior success developing strategy for business operations across various functions.
  • Successful change leadership responsibility, with specific accomplishment.
  • Able to maintain a “big picture” strategic view but roll up sleeves as needed to get things done.
  • Working knowledge of data analysis and performance/operation metrics.
  • Self-assured, confident and goal oriented.

  • Exposure to London market helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Support business processes and operations in a reliable and efficient manner in accordance with US business plan.
  • Develop a strategic overview of the current and future operational needs of the organization and the tactics to implement the day-to-day operating plans.
  • Develop department strategies and operating objectives, with assigned functions, to maximize efficiency and productivity.
  • Identify and manage key projects to continually improve the efficiency of business operations.
  • Ensure effective interaction with Canopius Group Shared Services initiative to further develop and leverage the US operational growth needs with a scalable and more efficient and cost-effective service.
  • Communicate on a regular basis and keep underwriting management team members educated and aware of business developments, challenges, and the actions needed to keep the company running smoothly during changing conditions.
  • Create initiatives and opportunities to develop leaders, managers, and succession plans for key positions.
  • And other ad hoc duties as required.
