About The Position

The Urban Forestry Consultant will have a variety of tasks to perform daily, varying by the work acquired through the sales and consulting team. This position has a thorough understanding of municipal code, and obtains tree permits. The main priorities are to perform field work, tree inventories, tree risk assessments, advise on the preservation of trees, prepare written reports, liaise information to clients, assist with consulting and training sales, ensure STC municipal regulation compliance and demonstrate a high level of competency and adherence to ANSI Standards, ISA Best Management Practices and Code of Ethics, and company safety policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Formal education in arboriculture, urban forestry, biology, ecology, horticulture, environmental science or associated fields.
  • Certified ISA Arborist with minimum 2-3 years of experience in arboriculture or urban forestry field
  • Tree Risk Assessor Qualification
  • Practical knowledge in aspects of Consulting arborist work including tree inventory, vegetation identification, arborist reports, communication and coordination skills, integrated pest management and mitigation of construction interference, municipal by-laws and permit process in relation to urban forestry and arborist requirements, experience in technical detailing, drafting and construction practices for coordination with consultants
  • Strong organizational skills, self-starting and able to review and understand scope of work and coordination with construction crews, municipal and consultant coordination
  • Written and verbal skills in English required
  • Professional appearance and ability to work easily with clients, consultants and government
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PC Computers
  • Current Drivers License
  • The ability to perform light work

  • The ability to see and respond to dangerous situations
  • The ability to work in inside environmental conditions

  • Climbing experience is not required.

Responsibilities

  • Consult with clients within different aspects of projects that may impact trees
  • Prepare tree inventories, arborist reports, site maps, memos and other written documentation as required for projects, permits and record keeping
  • Correspond with clients, municipalities, consultants and contractors.
  • Submit Tree permit applications and process tracking
  • Through research and on-going engagement with municipal arborists, answer internal questions around tree code and specific applications
  • Site monitoring for tree protection during construction or demolition
  • Tree risk assessments
  • Arborist project management for complex projects
  • Assist in developing on-going tree management plans for residential, municipal and commercial clients
  • Drive performance of consulting department and create timely and accurate invoices for delivery to clients
  • Other duties as assigned
