About The Position

Provide instruction in an assigned science course in conjunction with the research mentorship. Dates of summer program (including training) are May 26th-July 3rd  2026 This is a temporary position from May 26th-July 3rd 2026.  The total pay of $1800 is to be split as follows:  May - $277, June - $1,385, July - $138

Requirements

  • Junior standing at the undergraduate level in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or related field
  • 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher
  • Successful criminal background check necessary for working with minors is required

  • In your cover letter please address what high school level science classes you are qualified to teach based on your education and/or experience.

  • Please upload an example lesson plan you would use in your course focused on a specific topic in the class you indicated in your cover letter.  For example, in Chemistry an introduction to the Periodic Table, for Physics the formulas for Force or in Biology an introduction to cell terms.  The lesson should be geared toward high school students aged 9th-12th grade.  You can also email to [email protected]

Responsibilities

  • Work cooperatively with the Research Mentor to teach core scientific concepts required to complete participants’ research projects.
  • Provide an active, student-centered learning environment.
  • Work with math teachers if specific topics need to be covered in participant math courses to ensure success in participant science courses.
  • Must be available to teach a lecture component on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 8:30am-9:30am with a lab component on Tuesday afternoon from 3:30pm-5:30pm.  Also attend at least 1 study hall session Mon, Wed, or Thurs. from 3pm-5pm.
  • Attend all weekly academic meetings, as required.
