About The Position

Responsible for the recruitment of eligible program participants, development and implementation of program activities, and management of the tracking of program participants.DUTIES: Provide fundamental support to high school students in their preparation for college entrance. Serve high school students at risk for academic failure, low-income, first generation, and/or disabled students and/or low-income families. Provide opportunities for participants to succeed in pre-college performance and ultimately in higher education. To increase the rates at which participants enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education. Provide fundamental support to high school students in their preparation for college entrance. Serve high school students at risk for academic failure, low-income, first generation, and/or disabled students and/or low-income families. Provide opportunities for participants to succeed in pre-college performance and ultimately in higher education. To increase the rates at which participants enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education. Recruits and interviews eligible applicants for the Upward Bound Program (UB) in the school and through community awareness. Establishes and maintains rapport with principals, counselors, and other school officials. Assist the Director in the assessment of participants. Assist the Director in the coordination of the orientation of students and parents for the fall and summer sessions. Perform other duties, which are essential to the Upward Bound program. Plan, coordinate, and supervise group college visits. Assist the Director in hiring part-time staff for Academic and Summer Sessions. Maintain appropriate program and participant records relative to the position. Comply with all policies of the Alabama Community College System and the College. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in education or related field.
  • One or more years of professional experience working with low-income, first generation, and/or disabled students and/or low-income families required.
  • Ability to relate and communicate effectively with persons from diverse backgrounds required.

Nice To Haves

  • Secondary school or postsecondary experience with at least one year of teaching or advising experience preferred.
  • Recruits and interviews eligible applicants for the Upward Bound Program (UB) in the school and through community awareness.
  • Establishes and maintains rapport with principals, counselors, and other school officials.
  • Assist the Director in the assessment of participants.
  • Assist the Director in the coordination of the orientation of students and parents for the fall and summer sessions.
  • Perform other duties, which are essential to the Upward Bound program.
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise group college visits.
  • Assist the Director in hiring part-time staff for Academic and Summer Sessions.
  • Must be able to work two Saturdays per month during school year and some evenings/overnights during travel required by Summer program.
