About The Position

The Upper School Worship Leader supports and advances the mission of Fredericksburg Christian School by discipling students to know, love, and follow Jesus through both classroom instruction and chapel worship. This role provides vision, leadership, and coordination for Upper School worship, with a focus on developing students spiritually. Through teaching worship-related classes, mentoring student leaders, and leading chapel worship, the Worship Leader equips students to grow in their faith, use their gifts, and actively participate in worship. This role works closely with administration to cultivate a chapel environment that is engaging, Christ-centered, and meaningful for students.

Requirements

  • Committed Christian with a close personal walk with the Lord, maintained through personal routines (such as prayer and reading the Bible) and in the school setting (through regular participation in “Prayer and Share” devotional times and other spiritual development opportunities at the school) (1Thessalonians 5:11)
  • Possesses Christian character qualities to serve as a role model for young people and readiness to share faith in Christ with students as part of our school’s mission (1 Timothy 4:12)
  • Regular in attendance at a Christian, Bible-believing church, whose fundamental beliefs are not contrary to the FCS Statement of Faith (Hebrews 10:25)
  • Commitment to a Biblical lifestyle, not promoting or engaging in actions, beliefs, or lifestyles contrary to biblical standards, such as premarital, extramarital, transgender, or homosexual behavior (Romans 12:1-2, I Corinthians 6:9-20, Ephesians 4:1-11, 5:3-5, I Thessalonians 4:3-8, I Timothy 4:12, II Timothy 2:19-22, I Peter 1:15-16, 2:15-17, I John 3:1-3)
  • If married, demonstrates a solid commitment based on the principle of Mark 10:9 and a positive marital relationship
  • Strong commitment to Christian education
  • Experience in leading worship in a church, school, or ministry setting
  • Musical proficiency (vocals required; instrumental ability preferred)
  • Ability to lead and engage a student body in worship in a way that is age-appropriate and spiritually meaningful
  • Ability to recruit, train, and disciple student musicians and vocalists
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with administration, faculty, and students
  • Teachable, servant spirit

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead engaging, Christ-centered worship for Upper School chapel services
  • Select music that is theologically sound, engaging, age-appropriate, and encourages student participation
  • Create a worship environment that fosters reverence, authenticity, and active engagement
  • Collaborate with administration and chapel speakers to align worship with chapel themes and goals
  • Organize and lead student worship teams (band and vocalists) and grow the program to attract new students
  • Provide regular rehearsals and musical/spiritual development for students
  • Encourage student ownership and leadership in chapel worship
  • Disciple students in both musical excellence and spiritual growth
  • Develop and implement a vision for worship that supports the spiritual life of the Upper School
  • Evaluate and adapt worship practices to better engage students and support school goals
  • Coordinate chapel worship schedules, teams, and logistics with US chapel coordinator
  • Oversee and maintain worship-related equipment and resources
  • Work closely with Upper School administration to support chapel programming and student spiritual life
  • Communicate clearly with students, staff, and administration regarding schedules and expectations
  • Support broader school events as needed where worship leadership is appropriate
  • Develops a warm rapport with students and a positive, secure, neat and attractive classroom environment; trains students in habits and routines which are part of the FCS philosophy; maintains excellent student conduct and attention
  • Develops professionally by exploring and being willing to implement new instructional techniques and curriculum
  • Uses Atlas software to prepare lesson plans to ensure that the objectives of the curriculum are being met
  • Keeps attendance records, records grades according to department standards, and records of other monies from special projects if applicable
  • Places God's Word in a central position in daily instruction, integrating its principles throughout the day
  • Prays regularly for each child and presents the Gospel message and other Biblical instruction with sensitivity and love; faithfully follows the philosophy and Bible guidelines of the school
  • Learns and applies educationally relevant technology skills for teaching, learning, and administrative tasks with support from the FCS technology department
  • Maintains close, cooperative relationships with parents, communicating frequently with parents and responding to parent emails within 24 hours
  • Follows and supports school policies and guides students and parents to do the same
  • Dresses professionally and modestly, following the Staff Dress Code
  • Seeks an awareness of the total school vision and serves willingly in special areas which enhance the overall effectiveness of the ministry
