About The Position

MICDS is seeking a dynamic and talented teacher to join our World Languages & Cultures Department to teach Spanish in our Upper School, 9th 12th grades, in the 2026-2027 academic year. The ideal candidate should bring a collaborative nature and a student-centered approach to the classroom as well as a commitment to meeting the needs of a diverse group of learners. Our school community encourages ongoing professional growth and strong interest in implementing new curriculum and pedagogies aligned with highly effective teaching practices. Preference is given to candidates with a Masters degree in Spanish or Education as well as experience teaching at the high school level and familiarity with current ACTFL Standards and Proficiency Guidelines. Application of 21st century skills in the World Language classroom is encouraged. Experience with a 1:1 tablet laptop environment or the willingness to effectively utilize technology in the curriculum is essential. In addition to serving as an advisor to 10-12 students, the position includes additional community opportunities such as coaching and/or club sponsorship.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in subject matter required and Masters preferred.
  • Native or near native fluency in Spanish.
  • Ability to work in an environment that embraces a diverse community of students, educators, parents, and alums.
  • Experience working in a one-to-one laptop environment or relevant technology skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must enjoy working and learning with children.
  • A criminal history and background check is required and must be successfully completed prior to employment.

Responsibilities

  • Works with the department chair and curricular team to plan, document, evaluate, and revise curriculum, course content, and course materials and methods of instruction.
  • Utilizes the language laboratory and modern technology as a teaching tool.
  • Select and develop related print and online course materials.
  • Creates effective assessment tools to support student achievement and growth.
  • Implement effective and inclusive classroom management strategies to ensure a productive learning environment.
  • Evaluates, documents and communicates student progress through reporting systems and conferences.
  • Attend faculty, grade level and departmental meetings and supervisory duties.
  • Serves as grade level advisor for 10-12 students and implements grade level programming and advisory curriculum.
  • Maintains regularly scheduled office hours in order to advise and assist students.
  • Participates in the MICDS professional development framework and pursues outside opportunities to stay current with best practices and maintain expertise in subject matter.
  • Communicates student progress consistently with parents and guardians.
  • Collaborates effectively with departmental and grade level teams as well as student support service personnel.
  • Assures effective two-way communication at all levels of responsibility.
  • Serves on divisional and school-wide curriculum and program committees.
  • Serves as an advisor for 10-12 upper school students.
  • Serves as a mentor to new faculty.
  • Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the schools discretion.
