In this role, you will join Upper School faculty committed to providing the best educational experience possible for our 9th - 12th grade students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in foreign language pedagogy or a related field.
  • Native or near-native proficiency in both Spanish and English.
  • Experience with immersion settings using a communicative approach, language through content, cognitive grammar, and task-based pedagogical practices is essential.
  • Experience teaching at a high-school level with experience of teaching foundational lower level and upper level courses (e.g., related to conversation, current events, literature, film, music, etc.).
  • Demonstrate cultural awareness, such as knowledge of oneself, one's biases and the cultural lenses brought to interactions including privilege and its impact on different communities.
  • Demonstrate the integration of different perspectives and identities (such as race, class, gender, ethnicity, sexual identity, etc.) into curriculum and class activities.
  • Create an inclusive learning environment where all students feel seen, valued and heard
  • Collaborate on a teaching team.
  • Use Spanish for 95% or more of all class periods.
  • Use Spanish for authentic communication with colleagues and students outside of class.
  • Be comfortable working with technology to present daily lessons and leverage online learning platforms for tracking assignments and grades (e.g. experience with Canvas is a plus, but experience is not required).
  • Successful completion of a criminal history background check (required).

Responsibilities

  • Teaching a diverse student body with varying experiences and exposure to language instruction with an emphasis on building oral proficiency, promoting students’ ability to read and write in the language, and exploring the culture and history of the Spanish-speaking world.
  • Teaching four classes, typically with 2 preps.
  • Providing academic support outside of the classroom for students with different learning styles and strengths.
  • Collaborating, team teaching, and having fun, participating in the work of the language department on innovative, inclusive, and equitable curriculum development.
  • Pursuing professional development opportunities around pedagogy and best assessment practices.
  • Writing student comment evaluations four times per year: at mid-semester and end of each semester.
  • Attending regular department and faculty meetings.
  • Serving as an advisor for a small group of students.
  • Participating in the life of the school community, admission events, faculty meetings, grade-level meetings, and general engagement with student life.
