About The Position

The teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction and fostering a positive, supportive learning environment. This role includes guiding students through structured, content-rich lessons in a specific discipline, nurturing intellectual curiosity, and instilling moral and civic virtues. Teachers provide students with a robust educational experience during each class period, ensuring they develop academically and personally. In addition, teachers are expected to maintain clear expectations, demonstrate subject matter expertise, and care for the individual growth of each student.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and passing score on the State Praxis in the subject area required
  • Teachers with a bachelor's degree in the subject taught are preferred, or at a minimum 36 hours of higher education credit in the subject area of instruction. (In some cases, a passing grade in a content exam will suffice.)
  • Strong background in relevant content areas with a willingness to receive specific training

  • Adherence to all ACACS policies, including but not limited to the Employee Handbook, Family Handbook, and applicable school and board policies
  • Proficiency in a variety of teaching strategies and techniques to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment with superior organization and computer skills
  • Complete all required training and provide documentation as well as official college transcripts within 90 days of hire date
  • Demonstrate consistent and reliable attendance by adhering to assigned work hours, reporting on time, and following proper procedures for absences or tardiness to ensure minimal disruption to students, colleagues, and school operations
  • Demonstrate proficiency in both written and spoken English to effectively perform their job responsibilities and communicate in the workplace
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Responsibilities

  • Teaching courses in high-school Spanish, which addresses all four mastery modes: listening, speaking, reading, and writing
  • While building the foundational skills of language, students should also explore the culture of the language
  • Cultivating virtue through instruction, mentorship, and programming
  • Participating in Upper School House System as faculty mentor
  • Maintaining professionalism in conduct and communication, striving to exemplify our core virtues
  • Prepare unit and lesson plans for all courses in alignment with Hillsdale College's K12 Program Guide for each school year
  • Teach and mentor students, utilizing classical pedagogy methods
  • Assign, collect, grade, and return graded work in a timely manner
  • Identify struggling or advanced students to provide additional support or academic extensions
  • Collaborate with Students Services team to meet requirements of special educational plans, such as IEPs, 504s, and others
  • Communicate regularly, usually weekly, with parents
  • Assist in daily operations of the school (e.g., taking attendance, supervising student arrivals, passing periods in hallways, lunchtime and recess supervision) on a shared schedule
  • Participate in professional development as offered by ACADC and Hillsdale College's K12 Office
  • Maintain confidentiality in student records
  • Performs other related duties as directed
