The Principal reports to the Assistant Head of School for Student Life and serves as the instructional, cultural, and operational leader for their assigned campus, providing leadership and oversight for students, faculty, and staff. This role is central to advancing Brook Hill’s vision of being Mission Centered, Discipleship Focused, and Relationship Driven by modeling Christ-like leadership and ensuring these commitments are embedded in daily practice across the campus. In partnership with the Dean of Academics, Director of the Academic Resource Center (ARC), and other school leaders, the Principal promotes academic excellence, student growth, and a campus culture that reflects Brook Hill’s mission, values, and commitment to developing the whole student.

Responsibilities

  • Mission, Vision, and Culture Leadership Champion and model Brook Hill’s mission and three-fold vision—Mission Centered, Discipleship Focused, and Relationship Driven—ensuring it is lived out in daily interactions, decision-making, and campus culture.
  • Model Christ-like leadership, fostering a spiritually grounded and mission-aligned environment.
  • Cultivate a campus culture marked by trust, belonging, growth, and service.
  • Be a visible presence in hallways and classrooms on a regular basis.
  • Communicate with and update the Assistant Head of School regularly regarding issues, programs, and activities.
  • Provide instructional leadership in partnership with the Dean of Academics, supporting high-quality teaching and learning across the campus, and ensuring fairness and consistency in student evaluation and grading.
  • Partner with the Dean of Academics in curriculum development and review, ensuring consistency in programming and alignment with school-wide goals.
  • Collaborate with the Director of the Academic Resource Center (ARC) to ensure effective academic intervention, accommodations, and support services for students.
  • Use assessment data, classroom observations, and feedback to guide instructional improvement and student success.
  • Support student development academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually in collaboration with Dean of Students where applicable, and other support faculty.
  • Promote alignment within the campus and across divisions to support smooth student transitions and consistent academic expectations.
  • Oversee student discipline and provide a culture of accountability for teachers to uphold the student standard of conduct.
  • Collaborate with faculty to evaluate and enhance academic programs and co-curricular activities.
  • Partner with the Assistant Head of School for Student Life to implement the overall and specific campus plan for student life activities.
  • Support the recruitment, onboarding, evaluation, and retention of faculty and staff in collaboration with Human Resources and school leadership.
  • Set clear expectations for professional conduct, relational engagement, and student care, leading by example and holding faculty and staff accountable to shared values.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, ongoing feedback, and goal-setting support to faculty and staff to encourage instructional excellence and professional growth.
  • Facilitate faculty meetings, professional learning opportunities, and collaborative planning aligned with campus and school-wide goals, and in collaboration with Dean of Academics.
  • Assign and oversee faculty and staff duties related to student supervision, campus operations, and extracurricular responsibilities.
  • Oversee daily campus operations, including scheduling, student activities, supervision, safety procedures, and emergency response (in collaboration with Director of Security).
  • Develop and manage the division budget, working closely with the CFO to align financial needs with program goals.
  • Coordinate with the COO to manage and maintain campus facilities.
  • Manage the campus calendar and coordinate events in alignment with school-wide priorities and operational needs.
  • Ensure compliance with school policies, procedures, and applicable state and regulatory requirements, including student records management.
  • Ensure the campus meets all legal requirements and maintains best practices, complying with local and state regulations as well as CESA accreditation standards.
  • Collaborate with departments such as Admissions, Development, Marketing, IT, and Operations to support campus initiatives and institutional effectiveness.
  • Maintain open, timely, and respectful communication with parents and guardians, fostering trust and partnership in support of student growth.
  • Partner with Admissions and Marketing to support student recruitment, retention, and positive representation of the campus.
  • Participate in admissions activities, including applicant review and family engagement, as appropriate.
  • Represent the school and campus at events, performances, athletic contests, and community functions, serving as a visible ambassador of Brook Hill’s mission, values, and culture within the broader community.
  • Serve as a collaborative member of Brook Hill’s stewardship team, advocating for the campus in key strategic discussions and contributing to strategic planning and school improvement initiatives.
  • Support institutional priorities and initiatives as directed by the Head of School or Assistant Head of School for Student Life.
  • Engage in ongoing professional growth to remain current with trends and best practices in Independent/Christian school leadership.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including some evening or weekend programming.
