Position Summary: We seek a dynamic and talented teacher who can teach a range of college-preparatory and honors-level Upper School mathematics courses, including Algebra and Geometry, Honors Geometry, Algebra II, Honors Algebra II, Trigonometry/Pre-Calculus, Honors Pre-Calculus, and Calculus. Applicants with experience in any part of this range should feel welcome to apply. The ideal teacher will create a rich learning environment, employ varied teaching approaches, and use multiple tools to assess student understanding. S/he will be able to work collaboratively with other STEM teachers and will be guided by differentiated instructional methods in developing and delivering effective lessons to diverse learners. Enthusiasm for devising a variety of student experiences will be key: asking students to pursue inquiry-based learning, designing projects to serve as dynamic assessment tools, encouraging class discussions to deepen student understanding, and interest in developing a curriculum that uses our 140-acre Butler Campus as a classroom.

Requirements

  • The successful candidate must have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mathematics or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of prior teaching experience is preferred.
  • The successful candidate will possess a positive attitude, excellent written and verbal skills, strong organizational skills, and proven success within a work setting that requires collaboration, cooperation, and collegiality.
  • Candidates for Laurel teaching positions should be enthusiastic about pedagogy, particularly inquiry-based approaches and differentiated implementation best suited to various learners.
  • The candidate must possess or acquire and maintain a State of Ohio-issued teaching certificate or non-tax certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation and implementation of daily lessons
  • Design, implementation, and timely evaluation of appropriate, authentic formative and summative assessment
  • Timely and proactive communication with students, parents, and advisors about student progress
  • Advising of a small group of students
  • Collaboration with other members of the faculty, administration, and staff on experiential, interdisciplinary, and community-based opportunities that add to the school community
  • Active participation in all faculty and staff meetings
  • Support of divisional and school-wide initiatives through committee work, where appropriate
  • Supervision and/or participation in non-academic activities, including lunch, study halls, dances, class trips, etc
  • Other duties as assigned
