About The Position

The Athenian School seeks a full-time mathematics teacher to teach a total of four year long sections in two or three subjects. Successful candidates will have demonstrated the desire to, and the capabilities for, collaboratively generating curricula and classroom practices that help students develop mathematical habits of mind and learn the specific skills necessary to express and apply them. They will also have had experience with, or be interested in learning about, the design and implementation of alternative grading practices. Such candidates will also be drawn to meaningfully finding ways to express Athenian’s Pillars in our classrooms: Internationalism, Democracy, Environmentalism, Adventure, Leadership, Service. We seek an educator who models lifelong learning and becomes an active part of our vibrant community outside of the classroom. Successful candidates will also bring experience with differentiated, experiential, and culturally responsive teaching practices. In addition to these responsibilities, faculty have the opportunity to coach a sport for a supplemental stipend.

Requirements

• strong cultural competency and the capacity to work with students, families and colleagues who represent a broad range of identities and experiences
• experience teaching high school mathematics
• solid classroom management skills
• the ability to teach core subjects from Algebra 1 through Calculus
• Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Mathematics or a related field

Nice To Haves

• Experience teaching financial math and/or statistics
