Established in 1972, Mount Vernon School serves over 1,250 students in Preschool through Grade 12 on our 40-acre Atlanta campus. The Team The Upper School Faculty are a collaborative and forward-thinking community of education professionals who are consistently looking for ways to create real-world, project-based experiences that help their students connect content in a relevant and impactful way. While they customize and personalize the learning for each course, this team is united in using an inquiry-based model and a mastery approach to teaching. The Role Mount Vernon School seeks an innovative and collaborative Upper School Humanities teacher with expertise in History. At Mount Vernon, Humanities instructors teach a series of courses that integrate Literature, History, and English Language Arts skills. Versatility, collaboration, and openness to innovative instructional practices are essential. Availability to sponsor athletic, artistic, or academic teams/clubs is preferred.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Humanities education, History, Social Sciences, Psychology, English, or a related field
  • Classroom teaching experience, preferably in a high school or independent school setting
  • Proficiency with technological tools and platforms

  • Availability to sponsor athletic, artistic, or academic teams/clubs is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide meaningful instruction in Grades 9-12 Humanities using a variety of research-based and innovative teaching methods
  • Create well-planned nine-week units that connect students to the real-world learning opportunities
  • Create differentiated lessons to match the needs of each student in the classroom
  • Timely maintenance of accurate and comprehensive records of each student's performance and progress & communication with students/families pertaining to progress
  • Care and nurture for the social and emotional needs of each student
  • Maintenance of an organized, inviting, and student-centered learning environment
  • Participation in duties (e.g. lunch, enrichment and carpool) and others as assigned
  • Possess strong character with an absolute drive for excellence, a team-oriented spirit, and a commitment to meeting the learning and social-emotional needs of students
