General Position Summary The Upholsterer is responsible for making repairs and rebuilding upholstered pads.

Requirements

  • Works under general supervision.
  • A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.
  • Applies acquired job skills and company policies and procedures to complete assigned tasks.
  • Works on assignments that are semi routine in nature but recognizes the need for occasional deviation from accepted practice.
  • Normally follows established procedures on routine work; requires instructions only on new assignments.
  • Use of power tools such as: band saws, sanders, foam and upholstery material cutting knives etc.
  • Good hand and finger dexterity.
  • Self-motivated reliable team player. Must be dependable, on time.
  • English speaking preferred (speak and writing/reading)
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to learn new skills and behaviors.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Able to see and tell colors
  • Ability to work mandatory overtime.
  • Computer skills
  • Ability to withstand actions that are repetitive in motion.
  • Completion of an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty with 3-4 years of experience.
  • High School Diploma preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Using a single needle sewing machine to sew material for upholstery covers and webbing for pull straps
  • Stretch and staple cover to the molded pad to complete the upholstered pad
  • Spraying glue adhesive in a glue booth
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Responsible for his/her own quality of workmanship.
  • Be able to maintain an acceptable work pace throughout the day.
  • Safety is everyone’s responsibility. Staff is expected to act in a safe manner at all times and ensure that those around them do not put themselves or others at risk.
