Position Summary: Perform a variety of operations to assemble and upholster portions of fully upholstered furniture. Move frame assembly from roller conveyor to upholstery lift and perform assigned duties using air stapling equipment, hand tools, templates, and measuring devices. Work on a variety of models to shape and form the upholstery for a specific appearance, fit and trim. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Use transfer cart to move assembled frame from conveyor to upholstery lift. The upholstery lift (scissor lift) is pneumatically powered and controlled by a foot pedal. Proper bending techniques should be used when moving the transfer cart to prevent strains. Staple filler material (foam) to the frame. A Pneumatic staple gun is used to perform this task. Safety glasses are required to prevent any possible reflections from hitting the employee’s eye. Repetitive motion is a potential hazard from the triggering motion. Use scissors to cut excessive filler material from the frame. The pneumatic staple gun is used again to attach fabric/leather to the frame. The non-trigger hand is used to pull and stretch the fabric/leather to ensure the desired fit. The seams in the upholstered product are smoothed out and tucked by the use of a regulator (ice pick) for a crisp finished appearance. Excessive fabric is trimmed off around the finished wood portions of the frame with a box cutter (razor blade). Occasional lifting is required to sit frames off of the assembly conveyor due to repairs.
