About The Position

The Space Systems Platforms Division, within the Leidos Defense Kinetic Effects Business Area, currently has an opportunity for a Mechanical or Aerospace Engineer Summer Intern to work at our Huntsville, AL Dynetics campus providing support to the Universal Stage Adapter (USA) program. This is a dynamic opportunity supporting the Structures Systems and Assembly, Integration, and Test teams in which talented interns can thrive working alongside junior and senior engineers on a diverse array of multidisciplinary projects in the space systems arena.

Requirements

  • Position requires candidates to be capable of performing in a collaborative engineering environment working closely with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Applicant must be actively enrolled and working toward a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Materials Engineering or similar Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university.
  • Applicant must be a US Citizen.
  • Applicant must have an overall GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Ability to perform physical work such as lifting up to 30-lbs.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use common hand tools.
  • Applicant must be willing to work in-office in Huntsville, AL with travel to Decatur, AL one to two days per week

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with SolidWorks CAD software
  • Desire to solve complex technical problems and learn from a team of experienced engineers

Responsibilities

  • Support engineering design and integration activities for aspects of USA Structures Systems.
  • Develop conceptual CAD models and produce engineering drawings (if needed).
  • Work collaboratively with project team(s) to formulate innovative solutions to complex problems and products across a broad range of applications.
  • Support structural testing and analysis (if needed)
  • Support project team(s) across multiple disciplines with the completion of document deliverables.
  • Support the assembly, integration, and test of the USA test article and flight unit
