About The Position

The Unity Program Coordinator supports the Charlotte Program Director in implementing the NCOBS Charlotte Unity Project by leading on-the-ground recruitment, school-based outreach, and application follow-up. This role serves as the beginning point of contact for students during the recruitment and the application process, conducts school visits, attends club meetings when possible, and manages data entry into the database system to ensure accurate and timely tracking. Current Unity Schools: Butler, East Meck, Garinger, Mallard Creek, Myers Park, South Meck, West Charlotte. Additional schools to be added.

Requirements

  • 21 years of age or older
  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications.
  • Experience working with youth, schools, or community-based programs.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, especially with teens and school staff.
  • Ability to work independently across multiple school sites.
  • Comfortable speaking to groups of students, school administration, and parents while representing NCOBS professionally.
  • Register as a Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Volunteer
  • Must pass a background screening and be cleared to work with youth.
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel between schools.
  • General tech proficiency.
  • Commitment to equity, youth development, and experiential learning
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct school-based recruitment across participating CMS high schools, including:
  • Lunchtime/table recruitment
  • Classroom presentations (during peak recruitment periods)
  • General site visits and relationship maintenance
  • Serve as the on-site representative of NCOBS during recruitment events, promoting Unity participation with professionalism and enthusiasm.
  • Coordinate with school staff (e.g., counselors, Unity Advisors, administrators) to schedule visits, secure space, and manage logistics.
  • Maintain an updated list of club rosters & interested students.
  • Conduct timely outreach via text, email, or phone to encourage application completion.
  • Draft simple template messages for student/parent reminders.
  • Enter prospective student information, recruitment interactions, application status updates, and communication notes into database
  • Attend Unity Club meetings, when possible, to maintain a presence and build relationships with students.
  • Coordinate with Unity Advisors to stay informed about student interest, needs, and upcoming club activities.
  • Occasionally assist with logistics for meetings, as appropriate.
  • Assist with small administrative tasks that support Unity preparation (flyer distribution, email drafts, light communication support).
  • Provide on-site support for occasional recruitment events, student workshops, or Unity engagement activities.
  • Attend the Unity Send off and Unity Welcome Home events in June
  • Attend Charlotte Advisory Board Meetings, when possible
  • Uphold NCOBS values and represent the organization positively within each school.
