About The Position

The Unit Coordinator will assist the nursing, medical and counseling staff by performing a variety of clerical tasks that ensure the efficiency of the patient unit. This role requires flexibility, detail-oriented and strong computer skills. The Unit Coordinator’s responsibilities also include maintaining patient charts and answering nurse’s station telephone. The Unit Coordinator is responsible for assisting clients and families in the behavioral health system to enhance their recovery and promote wellness. This position requires the ability to relate and communicate effectively with patients in a treatment setting. Experience, training, or education in the field of addiction or mental health is preferred. The Unit Coordinator must have the ability to coordinate transportation services for our clients.

Requirements

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience: Experience, training, and/or education in the field of addiction or mental health. Ability to cover multiple shifts, including weekends. One to Three (1-3) years of customer service experience. Experience and comfortability with high-stress, fast-paced environment. Comfort speaking in front of larger groups. Experience with operating office equipment (fax, copier, etc.).
  • Skills: Computer literate and knowledgeable about current office applications. Knowledge and understanding of sanitation, cleanliness, safety, and facility upkeep. Knowledge of computer office applications (data entry, word processing, etc.). Clerical skills, understanding of filing systems, ability to maintain accurate records. Working familiarity of medical terminology. Excellent customer service skills and ability to work with an interdisciplinary team.
  • Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations: Current CPR certification or be CPR certifiable.

  • Valid MA Driver’s License with no restrictions.
  • Experience with addiction and mental health.
  • Past experience with facilitation of groups.

Responsibilities

  • Provide information and directions to treatment staff; answer the nursing station telephone; take and deliver messages.
  • Process and maintain patient charts (electronically and manually) from admission to discharge/transfer in accordance with established procedure.
  • Assist the nurse in making arrangements for patient transfer or discharge.
  • Work cooperatively with Patient Access Department to process patient admissions and prepare required forms.
  • Complete and maintain census information, diet order lists and other records as required.
  • Familiarity of treatment center routines and functions sufficient to refer calls, process records and schedule medical tests and procedures.
  • Interact and communicate effectively with patients and staff.
  • Attention to detail, handle multiple tasks at one time and follow through on work tasks.
  • Assist the admitting team in patient admission including checking in and storing valuables, assisting patient with activities of daily living, obtaining urine drug samples if necessary, and other related patient care functions.
  • Maintain safety of the unit, perform thorough bag/luggage searches upon patient admission, regularly scheduled bed checks to ensure patient attendance.
  • Participate in recovery-oriented socialization via informal interactions with patients, circulating in the program to monitor patient activity, and ensuring adherence to the program’s residency guidelines.
  • Transport patients to appointments related to their treatment plan including recovery homes, court proceedings, medical and entitlement visits, detox centers, referral locations, etc.
  • Monitor recreational activities and participate with other staff to coordinate these activities.
  • Conduct recovery-oriented patient twelve step discussion groups (shift appropriate only).
  • Document observations, activities, and participation in appropriate records including the patient record, shift logs and in the preparation of incident reports.
  • Data entry of patient information into electronic record system, including ESM where required.
  • Participate in required educational and in-service training programs including CPR and First Aid, Overdose Prevention, Trauma Informed Care, CPI, and De-escalation.
  • Perform housekeeping and custodial tasks in accordance with Gosnold’s established standards of sanitation and safety.
  • Maintain professional boundaries at all times, as outlined in Gosnold’s Personnel Policy and Ethics and Compliance Plan.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
