About The Position

POSITION SUMMARY: Performs all Unit Clerk duties including, but not limited to: typing and PC applications, filing, business machine functions, telephone and written communications, and assists in the facilitation of quality patient care.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent, business school or formal secretarial training a plus.
  • One to two years’ minimum experience required.
  • PC and appropriate software knowledge, knowledge of office equipment and supplies.
  • A solid understanding of department related terminology.
  • Good communication skills both oral and written as well as good interpersonal skills required.
  • Customer service oriented.
  • Service specific skills.

  • Participates in orientation and continuing education and updates and maintains knowledge and skills related to specific areas of expertise.

  • Drafts memos and other correspondence after receiving general Instructions.
  • Answers the telephone and routes to the person. When personnel are unavailable for telephone calls, records and delivers messages.
  • Greets visitors and ensures that each person waits in comfort with definite expectations of when and how they will be served.
  • Sorts and distributes departmental mail to members of the service.
  • Arrives at the job, appointments and meetings on time, dressed in hospital approved attire.
  • Presents self in a professional manner (neat, clean, appropriately dressed).
  • Works to the best of his/her ability. Flexible, adaptable to change,
  • Follows rules, policies and directives and seeks clarification if necessary.
  • Exhibits a commitment to teamwork, follow instructions and completes tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Interacts with others in a positive and friendly manner.
  • Projects positive image of self and hospital. Adheres to the organizational rules outlined in the employee handbook.
  • Adheres to hospital confidentiality statement.
  • Complies with expectations and duties established by each clinical unit/division in support of clinical staff and patients.
