About The Position

Nemours is seeking a Unit Clerk, Co-op, NICU to join our Nemours Children's Health team in Wilmington, DE. This position exists to support the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit by performing essential clerical, organizational, and communication functions that ensure the smooth daily operation of the patient care unit. The Unit Clerk Co‑Op contributes to efficient workflow by managing front‑desk responsibilities, facilitating communication among interdisciplinary team members, maintaining documentation and information systems, and supporting unit organization and supply processes. As part of a structured co‑op learning experience, the student will be academically supervised by their school’s co‑op coordinator. This role enables the student to gain exposure to a high‑acuity clinical environment while providing critical administrative support that enhances the overall functioning of the Level IV NICU.

Requirements

  • AHA BLS
  • Minimum 1 year patient care experience preferred (ex: Clinical rotations)
  • Able to read and write accurately.

Responsibilities

  • Courteously and professionally greets and assists visitors, families, and staff at the NICU front desk, including promptly answering telephones, directing inquiries, and maintaining a welcoming, family centered environment.
  • Facilitates clear communication within the interdisciplinary healthcare team by accurately relaying messages and information from physicians, nurses, ancillary departments, and other hospital units.
  • Uses hospital information systems to support unit operations, updating logs, processing documents, and assisting with electronic workflows as appropriate for a unit clerk role.
  • Maintains and organizes the NICU work area, ensuring that the front desk and shared spaces remain orderly, clean, and equipped for efficient unit operations.
  • Supports the nursing team by maintaining accurate and up to date information boards and communication tools, such as the unit huddle board and daily sheets.
  • Assists with maintenance of supply levels by helping monitor and restock designated areas to established par levels.
  • Maintains open communication, relaying pertinent information related to patient flow, unit needs, and operational priorities.
  • Participates in departmental meetings and training sessions relevant to the role.
  • Responsible for cleaning necessary equipment (isolettes, radiant warmers, transport isolettes, shuttles and cribs)
  • If reallocated to the sitter role, clerk may assist RN with activities of daily living.
