Reviews title work, assesses transactional risk, and contributes to well-reasoned commercial and residential underwriting decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field preferred
  • Typically requires 2+ years of related work experience
  • Admitted in NY and NJ with experience at a small to mid-sized law firm
  • Significant involvement in residential real estate transactions and loan, including title review closings
  • Strong familiarity with NY and/or NJ real estate practices and title insurance concepts

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and evaluates title searches, reports, related documents & insurance risk factors and must be able to justify and communicate underwriting requirements to counsel for buyers, sellers and lenders on real estate transactions
  • Responsible for evaluating risk, underwriting considerations, and exposures to determine acceptability while utilizing thorough understanding of title insurance policies and endorsements
  • Determines premiums, terms and conditions based on established rules, rates, and guidelines
  • Assists in resolving complex residential title and loan closing scenarios
  • May analyze data such as financial conditions of the organization, participation percentage, type of industry, characteristics of employee groups, or past claim experience
  • Performs a range of assignments and may lead projects within own discipline
  • Applies working knowledge of business and best practices gained through understanding of key business drivers and recognition of how own area integrates within organization
  • Works within broad guidelines and polices to accomplish objectives and goals
  • Solves moderately complex to complex problems and analyzes possible solutions using technical experience, judgement and precedents
  • Explains complex and/or sensitive information in a straightforward manner including providing guidance on curative matters and closing issues
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues, provides guidance to less experienced team members, and supports agents and internal teams with clear, practical underwriting advice
  • Individual contributor working with limited oversight
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by management
