About The Position

The student will contribute to two complementary research projects. In the first project, part of the DOE-funded BOTTLE consortium, the student will evaluate how biodegradable plastics break down under different end-of-life conditions by setting up laboratory and environmental experiments, tracking material changes over time, and analyzing degradation data. In the second project, the student will work on converting low-value organic waste streams into valuable short-chain fatty acids using arrested methanogenesis, assisting with bioreactor operation and process monitoring under controlled conditions. Together, these projects provide hands-on experience in materials testing, bioprocess development, and experimental data analysis within DOE-supported research efforts.
