About The Position

Pew Research Center is a nonpartisan fact tank that informs the public about the issues, attitudes and trends shaping America and the world. It conducts public opinion polling, demographic research, media content analysis and other empirical social science research in the areas of U.S. politics and policy; news and information; internet and technology; religion; race and ethnicity; international affairs; social, demographic and economic trends; science; research methodology and data science; and immigration and migration. Pew Research Center does not take policy positions. It is a subsidiary of The Pew Charitable Trusts. Pew Research Center’s work is carried out by a staff of about 180. The summer undergraduate internship is a paid opportunity during the summer of 2026. Interns are expected to work a minimum of 30 hours/week and are paid $18.50/hour. This internship is available to undergraduate students with an interest in digital development. The Center’s digital team includes designers, engineers, producers, audience outreach strategists, user experience and analytics managers. The team is responsible for publishing and promoting Center research across multiple digital platforms including pewresearch.org, email newsletters and social media. The digital team will host one intern in 2026 on its engineering sub-team. The Pew Research Center engineering team is actively involved in the Gutenberg project, to modernize WordPress, the platform that powers 41% of the internet. During your internship, you will learn to build interactive and dynamic web applications using Gutenberg Blocks. Your contributions may even be included in WordPress, impacting a significant portion of the internet. By the end of your internship, you will have a deeper understanding of the Gutenberg project, modern WordPress development, and what building, managing, and supporting an enterprise WordPress platform takes. Pew Research Center is an office-based workplace, with all staff working in the Center’s Washington, D.C., office three core days weekly (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday). Staff have the flexibility to work remotely up to two days per week. A modest relocation stipend is available for candidates who need it. Requirements

  • College students who are pursuing a bachelor’s or associate degree and have completed a minimum of two years (in other words, rising juniors and seniors).
  • Engineering team applicants should have experience working with React.
  • Interest in digital development, audience outreach, public opinion, polling and social science.
