The Ohio State University Newark campus serves undergraduate students pursuing any of the university’s 200+ majors, including several that can be completed entirely at Newark. The Advisor 2 position supports students within a defined subset of these undergraduate majors. The Advisor 2 role focuses on promoting student success through proactive advising strategies that help students stay on track with their academic goals. This position provides individualized academic advising, assisting students with course selection based on their evolving academic and career interests. The advisor helps students understand and navigate university policies, degree and program requirements, and other academic processes. The position also guides students in accessing campus resources—including academic support, career services, financial resources, and mental health services—to enhance their overall university experience. The Advisor 2 completes and may help develop structured work assignments, applying advanced concepts and technical skills to routine tasks. The role involves working on projects of varying complexity with limited supervision. The advisor shares information on standard matters and may receive guidance from more senior staff as needed. This position requires applying knowledge of advising theories, practices, and procedures gained through education and experience. Additional responsibilities include supporting student orientation by preparing materials and occasionally presenting to students and families. The Advisor 2 also teaches lessons in a student survey course using established instructional materials, participates in training sessions, and may grade assignments. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong understanding of academic advising services, a commitment to student development, and a collaborative approach to student support.
