Umstead Hospitality Internship
About The Position
The Umstead Hotel & Spa’s Internship Program is designed to provide current students with a unique opportunity to gain real world experience in the industry. The goal of this program is to develop our future hospitality leaders. The program includes hands-on experience where each student will have a home department (ranging from spa, food and beverage, front office, and housekeeping) and will work towards becoming experts in that area. There is also an Intern Shadow Program where students will spend time within various hotel departments such as spa, guest services, food & beverage, and administration, to ensure they are knowledgeable about all operations and potential career paths in hospitality. Additionally, the Human Resources team will organize three mandatory management classes to educate students on important luxury industry management skills. Participants will also be required to attend one of the bi-weekly leadership meetings and one Resume meeting.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a degree-granting hospitality program
- Secure housing within the area (local universities may provide summer housing for students)
- Commit to a full time schedule as a seasonal summer employee
- Weekend availability required
Responsibilities
- Spend the majority of their internship in a home department (spa, food and beverage, front office, or housekeeping) and work towards becoming experts in that area
- Spend time within various hotel departments such as spa, guest services, food & beverage, and administration through the Intern Shadow Program
- Complete 3 mandatory management classes organized by the Human Resources team
- Attend one of our bi-weekly leadership meetings
- Attend one Resume meeting
