Job Summary: Leads the ultrasound department in the delivery of clear and accurate images of tissues, organs, vessels and pathology to physicians for diagnosing purposes. Supervises and mentors ultrasound technology and sonography personnel. Oversees quality assurance and maintains equipment.

Requirements

  • High School Education/GED or equivalent: Required
  • Diploma/certificate from an Ultrasound college/school: Required
  • American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certification: Required
  • American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or CCI Registered Vascular Specialist (CCI RVS): Required

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred
  • Three years' sonography experience: Preferred
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) in Sonography: Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Reviews daily ultrasound schedule and assigns staffing, equipment and supplies accordingly.
  • Prioritizes emergent procedures, minimizes patient waits and optimizes turn-around times.
  • Uses and oversees the use of ultrasound equipment to direct high-frequency sound waves to a prescribed area of the patient's body and capture quality images that describe the composition, shape and motion of tissues, organs, vessels and pathology.
  • Summarizes, documents, verifies and presents images, findings, calculations and measurements to physicians for diagnoses.
  • Ensures compliance with local, state and federal regulations, standards and protocols.
  • Maintains accurate records, files and billing information.
  • Ensures the integrity of patient medical images and data while adhering to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other patient confidentiality guidelines and regulations.
  • Supervises and mentors ultrasound technology and sonography personnel, including orientation, training and development, scheduling and monitoring for performance improvement opportunities.
  • Performs routine maintenance and calibration of ultrasound equipment and manages supply inventory.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
