About The Position

Performs standard and complex ultrasound examinations, including examinations of the abdomen, liver, renal, GYN and small parts scanning. Performs computer work and required forms associated with patient exams, complications and/or quality improvement activities. Responsible for the quality assurance of the image prior to transmission to the PAC's network. Schedule exams while maintaining flexibility for emergency cases. Advise radiologists or referring physicians of examination results and notifies the radiologist of scans requiring immediate attention. Practice radiation safety and assure compliance to radiation regulations. Maintain records and files of exams performed on patients. Properly identify patient images. Explain exams to patients so that patients understand what is to be done as well as what hazards, if any, are possible. Performs irregular hour emergency scans on standby/on call, 24 hours per day, coverage.

Requirements

  • Must be registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in Abdomen/Small Parts.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
  • Must have a minimum 3 years of hospital experience.
  • Must be registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in Abdomen/Small Parts and at least two separate certifications, such as RVT, OB/GYN, Muscular Skeletal, etc;
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
  • Must have a minimum 3 years of hospital experience within the United States.
  • Demonstrated expertise in ultrasounds of scrotum, pelvis and U/S guided biopsy, including liver and renal biopsies of native and transplanted organs, renal artery stenosis and renal Doppler.
  • Must have worked within a hospital setting as an Ultrasound Tech in the last six months.
  • Provide evidence of current professional liability insurance.
  • Be available to work for the VA at least six (6) months after starting date.
  • Must have worked within a hospital lab setting as a Vascular Ultrasound Tech in the last six months.
  • U.S. Citizenship and a successful background investigation are required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
  • Willingness to comply with the government vaccination requirements, reflected of CDC guidelines, for diseases including Hepatitis B, influenza, and proof of a negative PPD test.
  • Ability to stand, bend, reach, and lift supplies or materials (15-100 pounds) as required.
  • Manual dexterity for handling equipment and performing imaging procedures.
