About The Position

Description Nestled on the Central California Coast, Adventist Health Sierra Vista has been providing care to our community since 1959. Our 162-bed acute care facility includes a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and county designated trauma center. San Luis Obispo offers the excitement of a lively community while being a fifteen-minute drive from the serenity of Avila Beach, known for their natural hot springs, and Pismo Beach, known for their sand dunes and eucalyptus trees. Job Summary: Performs ultrasonic diagnostic procedures in accordance with accepted protocols as directed by physicians. Produces images of internal body tissues in order to diagnose and monitor a variety of conditions such as heart disease, pregnancy and cancer. Supervises and mentors ultrasound personnel. Maintains equipment. This position is represented by SEIU.

Requirements

  • Diploma/certificate from an Ultrasound college/school: Required
  • Registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certification in Abdomen (AB), Obstetrics (OB) or Vascular (RVT); or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS); or Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) in Sonography (S) or (VS): Required within one year of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQIBLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required
  • Facility Specific License/Certifications: AHA-BLS or ARC-BLS: Required

Responsibilities

  • Uses ultrasound equipment to direct high-frequency sound waves to a prescribed area of the patient’s body and capture quality images that describe the composition, shape and motion of tissues, organs, vessels and pathology.
  • Summarizes, documents, verifies and presents images, findings, calculations and measurements to physicians for diagnoses.
  • Adheres to ultrasonic diagnostic procedures, precautions and standards.
  • Provides direct patient care, including assessing patient condition and ability to cooperate.
  • Positions patients and equipment, prepares patients for procedures and continually monitors and records vital signs.
  • Observes for reactions and signs of impending complications and intervening as needed.
  • Maintains accurate records, files and billing information.
  • Ensures the integrity of patient medical images and data while adhering to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other patient confidentiality guidelines and regulations.
  • Prepares rooms and patients for subsequent ultrasound procedures.
  • Verifies operational status of equipment prior to daily utilization.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
