About The Position

The Ultrasonographer II at Beloit Health System is responsible for performing patient assessments, procedures, and providing care using medical ultrasonography. This role involves reviewing patient symptoms, explaining procedures, ensuring patient comfort, and accurately documenting exams and patient records. The technologist must recognize various pathological states and adapt exams for appropriate diagnosis, reporting abnormalities to physicians. Key aspects include operating ultrasound equipment and transducers, participating in continuing education to maintain ARDMS certification, and effectively teaching sonography concepts to students. The position also entails managing inventory, assisting with patient care including transportation, contributing to equipment decisions, reporting malfunctions, and performing clerical, scheduling, and filing functions within the Medical Imaging department, including PACs. The employee is expected to maintain integrity, deliver high-quality medical services and patient satisfaction, and show respect and consideration to patients, visitors, and fellow employees.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Medical Sonography
  • Board certification required in two to three areas of specialty which includes but not limited to: Vascular, Abdomen, OB/GYN, Breast, Musculoskeletal
  • Annual recertification from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers is required (ARDMS)
  • Participation in continuing education programs
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Must be CPR certified within three (3) months of hire
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply proper procedures to BHS policies
  • On call required with reporting for duty within 30 minutes

Responsibilities

  • Perform assessments, procedures and care for the patient with medical uses of Ultrasonography
  • Perform patient assessments, review symptoms and explain procedure to be performed
  • Provide comfort measures during testing
  • Ensure proper documentation of exam and procedure and maintain accurate patient records
  • Recognize various pathological states and know how to alter the exam to make an appropriate diagnosis
  • Report abnormalities to the physician reading the study as well as the referring physician
  • Ability to set up and operate equipment and transducers appropriately
  • Actively participate in in-service and continuing education programs, maintaining required CEU credits required by ARDMS (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography)
  • Work effectively with students and be cooperative in teaching the concepts and skills involved in sonography
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform functions accurately and efficiently with computer software application appropriate to position
  • Take responsibility for inventory and stocking supplies in assigned areas
  • Assist in aspects of patient care including transportation
  • Provide input for equipment and supply decisions
  • Detect, report to supervisor, and contact repair person for equipment malfunctions
  • Assume responsibility for portions of department quality assurance and improvement program
  • Perform all PACs, clerical, scheduling, and filing functions
  • Pursue continuing education
  • Assist other departments within Medical Imaging
  • Adhere to established health system and Medical Imaging department policies, rules, and regulations
  • Maintain ethical conduct and keep confidential personal and medical information about patients
  • Perform in a manner which ensures delivery of the highest quality of medical services and patient satisfaction
  • Show respect and consideration given to the dignity of each patient, visitor, and fellow employee
