A Day in the Life The Ultrasonographer I functions under the delegated authority of a supervising physician to provide diagnostic medical sonography services, delivering clinically relevant imaging information to support patient diagnosis and treatment in accordance with education, training, professional standards, and facility policies. Prepare equipment and exam rooms, verify orders and patient identifiers, review patient history, communicate effectively with patients, and perform ultrasound examinations safely and efficiently per established protocols. Apply independent clinical judgment to obtain accurate and complete imaging, recognize exam limitations, acquire additional images as needed, and prepare preliminary findings for physician interpretation. Ensure patient safety, comfort, privacy, and infection control while maintaining professional, ethical, and appearance standards. Operate, clean, and maintain ultrasound equipment; perform quality control; manage documentation and images in PACS; and support departmental operations, including quality improvement activities, basic vascular studies, education support, on-call coverage, and routine stocking and housekeeping.
