About The Position

Relocation assistance available up to $10,000. Details shared upon job offer. New grads and experienced sonographers are both encouraged to apply. Autonomously performs complex diagnostic ultrasound imaging procedures for patients of all ages, under the supervision of qualified physicians for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. Diagnostic sonographers take the initiative to confirm the imaging orders for completeness and accuracy. Reviews patient history and supporting clinical data for medical necessity. Responsible for contacting the ordering physician if an inadequate reason for test is supplied. Sonographers utilize advanced knowledge to perform diagnostic procedures (inpatient and outpatient settings, including portable and O.R. examinations) by producing, assessing, and evaluating ultrasound images and related data. Sonographers are required to exercise independent judgment in the interpretation and analysis of exams and provide a preliminary diagnosis of the technical findings to the physician. This vacancy is not eligible for sponsorship/we will not sponsor or transfer visas for this position. Also, Mayo Clinic DOES NOT participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.

Requirements

  • Must have an associate's degree in a related field and be a graduate of a CAAHEP-accredited sonography program.
  • Or, have an associate's degree if a graduate of a non-CAAHEP-accredited sonography program, must hold at least one ARDMS board certification (Abdomen, OB/Gyn, or RVT) at the time of hire.
  • Incumbents hired into the role prior to February 15, 2018, are required to meet the previous requirements of graduating from an accredited sonography program.
  • Must have strong communication skills involving interactions with patients, physicians, and other medical professionals.
  • Or, have an associate's degree if a graduate of a non-CAAHEP-accredited sonography program, must hold at least one ARDMS board certification (Abdomen, OB/Gyn, or RVT) at the time of hire.
  • Ability to communicate preliminary findings to the Radiologists and Residents.
  • Works independently with minimal supervision.
  • Requires ability to think critically, make judgments, and proceed with action accordingly.
  • Requires standing, walking, and pushing equipment for long periods of time.
  • Requires the ability to lift or assist others with lifting patients of differing weight by mechanical lifting devices.
  • Requires the ability to use isolation precaution techniques including using personal protective equipment.
  • Must be ARDMS registered (or registry eligible) in the areas of abdomen, obstetrics/gynecology (OB/GYN) and vascular technology (RVT).
  • Registry-eligible candidates must become ARDMS registered in abdomen within 6 months of Mayo employment.
  • Registry eligible candidates must become ARDMS registered in obstetrics/gynecology (OB/GYN) within 12 months of Mayo employment.
  • Registry-eligible candidates must become ARDMS registered in vascular technology (RVT) within 18 months of Mayo employment.
  • CPR/BLS Certified or obtained within 90 days of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Non-Imaging Vascular (NIV), Musculoskeletal Ultrasound (MSK), Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) studies, Prostate Ultrasound, and/or CT/PET/MRI fusion is advantageous.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
  • Sonographers are highly encouraged to be involved in professional development. This may include presenting cases at conferences, creating posters, and/or actively participating in department committees.
