Role Summary Internship Term: Winter/Spring 2026 Rivian internships are experiences optimized for student candidates. To be eligible, you must be an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited program during the internship term with an expected graduation date between December 2026 through May 2028 If you are not pursuing a degree, please see our full time positions on our Rivian careers site. Note that if your university has specific requirements for internship programs, it is your responsibility to fulfill those requirements. The Hardware Design Engineering Intern will play a pivotal role in the design, development, and testing of Rivian's high-performance electrical microelectronics used for our electric vehicles. You will work cross-functionally to create innovative hardware solutions that meet performance, safety, and durability standards, driving Rivian's commitment to engineering excellence and sustainability.

Requirements

  • Must be currently pursuing a masters or PhD degree at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign
  • Actively pursuing a degree or one closely related in Electrical Engineering
  • Proficiency in EDA tools (e.g., Cadence Allegro, Virtuoso Layout suite, Mentor Graphics Xpedition, Altium).
  • Understanding of signal integrity (SI), power integrity (PI), and thermal management techniques in electronics design.
  • Experience with simulation and modeling tools (e.g., ANSYS, HFSS, HSPICE, SiWave) for thermal, electrical, and mechanical analysis.
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies such as Chiplets, TSV, RDL, and Silicon Interposer.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with designing passive devices is highly preferred, and/or high-frequency and high-power component design

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop advanced electronic components with a focus on electrical, thermal, mechanical and reliability performance.
  • Conduct simulations to optimize electronic component design and performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define package requirements and ensure alignment with device specifications.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and standards, to drive innovation within the team.
