About The Position

The Term Instructor of Social Work is a full-time, nine-month, bipartite (teaching and service) faculty position within the University of Alaska Fairbanks, College of Liberal Arts, Social Work Department. This role supports the B.A. in Social Work degree, which is delivered through online asynchronous, distance-based Zoom, and hybrid modalities, including our rural-intensive cohort. The faculty member will teach three to four courses per semester—including SWK F103: Introduction to Social Work and upper-division 300-level major courses—while also recruiting, advising, mentoring, and supporting a diverse student population. The successful candidate will be responsible for high-quality instruction across all program modalities; curriculum development and modification for distance delivery; and holding office hours appropriate to the courses taught. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the position includes a service component involving participation in departmental, college, and university committees; community and public service activities; support of program accreditation processes; and serving as faculty advisor for at least one student organization. To thrive in this role, the successful candidate will be a collaborative, student-centered educator with strong interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated commitment to teaching Social Work at the university level. They will bring experience with distance-education technologies and an understanding of multicultural and rural social work practice, particularly in ways that align with CSWE accreditation standards. The ideal applicant will be able to make effective decisions under pressure, build and maintain community partnerships, and contribute positively to a diverse and collegial academic team. A commitment to multicultural values, the ability to advocate for the Social Work program and the university, and familiarity with Alaska Native or Indigenous communities are highly valued, with experience in distance teaching strongly preferred.
