Reuters is looking for a skilled, creative and ambitious editor to oversee our coverage of Capitol Hill, U.S. politics generally and federal law enforcement. The ideal candidate would move easily between fast-breaking news and enterprise, with the goal of capturing the news moment with distinctive stories and inspiring the best possible work from a talented, diverse group of reporters. Experience editing political journalism is a must, as is the ability to consistently make good decisions about what to do (and not do) in a fast-paced and highly competitive news environment. The ability to work with reporters to get scoops and break news is a must, as is the ability to elevate copy. The best candidate for this job also will have a knack for finding the engaging, the offbeat, the illuminating story target that others might not see. This editor will also have a leading role in shaping Reuters’ coverage of the coming elections in 2026 and 2028, with ample opportunity to put a stamp on the most important political stories of our time. The position reports to the Washington bureau chief. As U.S. Congress/Justice Editor, you will: Manage breaking news and enterprise stories on the legislative dealmaking on Capitol Hill and scoopy, agenda-setting coverage of the Justice Department and the FBI. Inspire and develop reporters to do best-of-class reporting that routinely breaks news. Push Reuters political coverage to be first and best, every day, across mediums and platforms
