About The Position

We are seeking dedicated and passionate tutors to join our team. The ideal candidates will be enthusiastic about education, possess excellent communication skills, and have a strong desire to help students achieve their academic goals. As a tutor, you will work closely with students to provide personalized instruction, support their learning needs, and foster a positive and engaging learning environment.

Requirements

  • Must be currently certified by the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) as a general education or special education teacher.
  • Communicate and detect information at levels to be able to make presentations and exchange information in person and on the telephone
  • Express oneself so others will be able to clearly understand
  • Constantly operate a computer keyboard and manipulate paper
  • Detect, determine, perceive and identify documentation and reports, and to observe students
  • Able to meet multiple demands from several people and meet deadlines with severe time constraints
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time, in both indoor and outdoor environments, and regularly move and traverse in order to maintain a safe learning environment
  • Stamina to work irregular or extended hours
  • Work at a desk, conference table, small student classroom table, or in meetings in various configurations
  • Position self to be able to retrieve items overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally
  • Move and transport moderately heavy objects

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to the policies of the Portsmouth School Department
  • Promotes the attainment of the District's mission, vision, and strategic plan
  • Provides targeted instruction to students requiring tutoring services.
  • Promotes a high level of active learning through setting high standards and clear goals and modifying instruction to help all students achieve those standards.
  • Maintains systems of assessment and measurements that reflect progress in achieving instructional objectives.
  • Assists with data collection, eligibility criteria, and student selection
  • Establish an atmosphere that encourages sensitivity and respect among students and with the teacher, and practices and routines that create an appropriate learning environment.
  • Design instructional experiences in which students achieve high standards and optimize their performance by taking responsibility for their own learning.
