Madden’s is currently seeking a full-time seasonal Turf Intern. This role works directly with our golf course maintenance staff to assist and learn how to implement sustainable maintenance practices and achieve high-end turfgrass conditions.

Requirements

  • Pesticide and fertilizer applications
  • Hand watering
  • Record keeping
  • Topdressing
  • Irrigation programming, maintenance, and repair
  • Both small and large equipment operations
  • Currently enrolled in/interested in/recently graduated from a certificate, associates, or bachelor’s degree program in Turfgrass or related agronomy-based field.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

  • Willing to learn how to calibrate chemical sprayers and fertilizer spreaders as required for proper application.
  • Assist with installation, maintenance, and repair of irrigation system components.
  • Participate in routine irrigation inspections and troubleshooting.
  • Observe and assist with pump station and satellite maintenance.
  • Monitor turf moisture conditions and assist with hand watering.
  • Gain understanding of water management strategies and conservation practices.
  • Assist in calibration and application of fertilizers and pesticides under supervision.
  • Learn proper pesticide handling, storage, mixing, and disposal procedures.
  • Verify application rates and review label requirements.
  • Maintain accurate application records in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Opportunity to pursue Pesticide Applicator License as part of professional development.
  • Participate in aerification, topdressing, Verti cutting, overseeding, and other cultural practices.
  • Assist in evaluating turf health, disease pressure, and stress indicators.
  • Learn agronomic decision-making processes from supervisory staff.
  • Receive training in safe operation of maintenance equipment.
  • Assist mechanics with routine maintenance tasks as appropriate.
  • Develop understanding of equipment safety protocols.
  • Work with assistant superintendents to lead morning crew meetings, fill out job board, and other meetings such as safety and demonstrations
  • Lead small project-based groups from start to finish
