Volund is building propulsion for America’s next industrial revolution. We design propulsion systems for cost, agility, and scale, combining advanced automation, precision manufacturing, and rapid iteration to move from prototype to production at unprecedented speed. Intelligent manufacturing is engineering at scale. At Volund, engineers operate across the full stack, from concept and simulation to process code and machine execution, ensuring that what is designed can be built and what is built can be scaled. Volund is looking for engineers to develop small gas turbine engines. Our goal is to provide energy dense designs that deliver performance according to program inputs. There are multiple engineering positions available, and we are seeking expertise in the field who can wear multiple hats in our dynamic development environment. The skills we are looking for range from designers to CFD and FEM analysts, from specialists in component analysis and their definition to engineers who directly develop and test hardware and everything in between.   • Support engine development from cradle to grave.
  • Join a world class team to deliver propulsion at scale.
  • Creation of 3D geometry for engine components.
  • Design and test entire rotating assemblies for optimal performance.
  • Optimize designs for thrust to weight ratio and for DFx.
  • Perform aerodynamic and thermodynamic analysis to evaluate designs.
  • Conduct structural analysis, fatigue modeling and life estimation.
  • Develop or specify bearing systems, seals, materials, and balancing to optimize system performance.
  • Iterate with other engineers and manufacturing to optimize systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Minimum 4-6 years of experience in gas turbine design, jet engine development, or high-speed rotating machinery.
  • Experience in one or more areas of rotating assembly design, CFD, FEA or rotor dynamics.
  • Experience with the relevant materials, alloys, and manufacturing methods to produce turbomachinery designs.
  • Proficiency in CAD and simulation tools such as ANSYS, STAR-CCM, Concepts NREC, SolidWorks or NX.
  • Working specially with jet turbines, UAS and directly relevant programs.
  • Hands on experience with cold and hot gassing of experimental turbomachinery designs.
  • History with Analysis software for turbomachinery (AxStream, Concepts NREC)
  • Experience with turbomachinery test rig development.
  • Familiarity with Turbine Cycle Analysis (NPSS).
