About The Position

As a Turbine Generator Service Technician (Winder), you will perform operations involving the inspection, disassembly, assembly, repair, refurbishment, and maintenance of all mechanical and electrical components in Turbine Generators, with emphasis on the Generator Rotating Field. This is a 4-week rotating shift position. Essential responsibilities include performing mechanical disassembly, refurbish & reassembly of generator rotors in a high quality and timely fashion using induction heating machines, large propane torches, overhead cranes and various hand and power tools. The role also involves performing work according to technical drawings, work procedures and work orders with minimal supervision, brazing copper winding connectors, performing and assisting with all generator electrical diagnostic tests, troubleshooting electrical and mechanical issues, and participating in continuous improvement projects and lean action work outs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma / GED or Equivalent
  • 2 years of relevant work experience
  • Must be able to work a variety of 4‑week rotating shifts, including rotating 1st and 2nd shifts (7:00am–3:30pm / 3:00pm–11:30pm) and/or extended schedules (7:00am–5:30pm and 5:00pm–3:30am)
  • This position is 100% onsite at GE Richmond Service Center
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime, including off-hours, weekends, and holidays
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future
  • Must successfully complete a drug screen and background check

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree / Trade School Degree
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with small to large generators, electric motors, stator and/or electrical component winding
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with assembling / disassembling end bells / retaining rings
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience brazing, either by torch, carbon or induction
  • Experience performing electrical testing
  • Apprenticeship card from state certified apprenticeship programs

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical disassembly, refurbish & reassembly of generator rotors in high quality and timely fashion using induction heating machines, large propane torches, overhead cranes and various hand and power tools (i.e., removal and installation of coupling, fans, retaining rings, blower hubs, wedges, blocking, copper coils)
  • Perform work according to technical drawings, work procedures and work orders with minimal supervision
  • Braze copper winding connectors either by propane torches, carbon resistance or induction heaters
  • Perform and assist with all generator electrical diagnostic tests according to testing procedures
  • Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects and lean action work outs
